SEG Foundation Student Fellowship Program


$200,000 AVAILABLE FOR SEGF 2009 GRADUATE STUDENT FELLOWSHIPS


THE SEGF GRADUATE STUDENT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM IS SUPPORTED IN PART BY MAJOR GRANTS FROM ANGLOGOLD ASHANTI LIMITED, BARRICK GOLD CORPORATION, GOLD FIELDS EXPLORATION INC., AND NEWMONT MINING CORPORATION.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Must have been accepted, or are in the process of being accepted, as a first-year graduate student at a recognized college or university offering a graduate program leading to an advanced degree in economic geology as it relates to the study of mineral and ore deposits, geochemistry or geophysics with applications to minerals exploration, or must be currently enrolled as a full time first-year student in a graduate program that fits this description.
  • Must have a strong interest in the study of economic geology as it relates to mineral and ore deposits, geochemistry or geophysics with applications to minerals exploration, or in a discipline closely related to the field of economic geology.
  • Must be a student member of the Society of Economic Geologists, Inc. (SEG), or have applied for SEG student membership.

    Completed application forms must be accompanied by (1) an official transcript of grades from the institution awarding the BS degree, and (2) two letters of recommendation—one from the student’s undergraduate advisor or head of department, and another from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s academic record and character.

    Fellowships awarded under this program will be announced in early April 2009, for students beginning graduate school in September 2009. Funds will be delivered to successful applicants upon receipt by the SEGF of proof of enrollment at the graduate school selected by the student.

    Applications, together with the required supporting documentation, should be submitted to the following address and must be postmarked no later than February 15, 2009.
