The recently constructed SEG Course Center is aimed at enhancing the Society’s reputation for the provision of timely and first-rate courses for students and professionals alike. We are currently focused on providing educational content to those able to attend in person but soon lectures will be broadcast to a wider audience on the internet and stored for future viewing on digital media. The Course Center is designed to accommodate 44 persons in a classroom setting with desk receptacles located close to power outlets for laptops and access to wireless internet. The classroom is equipped to record presentations (and presenters) using the VBrick audiovisual system. There is an adjacent lobby for lunches/receptions as well as restroom facilities.
In 2007, President Goldfarb appointed an ad hoc Course Committee consisting of Murray Hitzman (Chair and Professor at the Colorado School of Mines), Antonio Arribas (Newmont Mining Company), Peter Drobeck (Geological Consultant), David Leach (US Geological Survey), and Steve Zahony (Canyon Resources) to set up a new series of courses aimed at providing economic geologists the world over with the skills and tools needed to further their careers.
