SEG-CODES Student Chapter Gold Workshop September 5, 2007 (Hobart, Australia)

Associate Professor David Craw (Otago University, New Zealand) will present a one-day workshop “Geochemical and Structural Controls on Gold Mineralisation in Mesothermal Gold Deposits and the Environmental Geochemistry of related Hg-As-Sb mine wastes” at CODES, University of Tasmania (see announcement at www.segweb.org/CODESworkshop.pdf.  The course will be relevant to those with an interest in the development of mesothermal gold mineralization in active and ancient terrains and the associated environmental impact of mining these deposits. Registration fees for industry participants are $100 ($50 to students from other universities).  For more information or to register interest please contact anitap1@utas.edu.au or nathanf@utas.edu.au.

SEG at AGS 2007 Ores & Orogenesis Symposium September 24-30, 2007 (Tucson, USA)

In conjunction with Ores & Orogenesis (Circum-Pacific Tectonics, Geologic Evolution, and Ore Deposits – a symposium in honor of William R. Dickinson), SEG will be presenting a symposium on “Advances in the Understanding of Supergene Processes” as well as a pre-symposium field trip to classic porphyry copper occurrences of the American southwest.  See http://azgssymposium.org/pages/seg-activities.php for details on SEG events and go to www.agssymposium.org/ for full details on the symposium.

SEG Gold Workshop pre-World Gold Conference October 20-21, 2007 (Cairns, Australia)

Now being presented in Australia for the first time, the workshop on "Gold Deposits: Geology, New Developments, and Exploration" will take place on October 20-21, prior to the AusIMM World Gold 2007 conference in Cairns, Australia.  While attendees need not be registered for the conference to participate in the course, registration for the course is through the conference website and details on the workshop are listed at www.ausimm.com.au/main/gold2007/workshops.php. Speakers include Richard Goldfarb (Orogenic gold deposits), Craig Hart (Intrusion-related gold systems), Noel White (Epithermal gold deposits), and Steve Garwin (Carlin-type gold deposits).  Materials presented will be rich in geological descriptions of some of the world's best examples of these deposit-types, and include sections on tectonic- and structural-settings, geochemical and geophysical signatures, and exploration methods.  This workshop will be of interest to all geologists, particularly those involved in the exploration for gold resources.

SEG Nickel Workshop pre-GSA Conference October 27, 2007 (Littleton, Colorado, USA)
